Number of tourists visited Spain falls by 75%

2.5 million foreign tourists visited Spain in July, 75% lower than the same month last year.


The highest number of visitors came from France with 597.244 , followed by the Germans with 432.302 visitors and the British with 377.886.


Spain closed its borders to tourists for about 3 months from mid-March to the end of June due to the covid-19 outbreak.


Spain received a total of 13.25 million tourists in the first seven months of 2020, while last year this number was approximately 48 million.


According to the data announced by the Spanish National Statistics Institute , foreign tourists spent 14.29 billion euros in the first seven months, while the country’s tourism income was 52.36 billion euros in the same period last year. The fall in tourism income was 73%.


The final blow to Spanish tourism came from Britain and Germany, after they took the Spain off the safe travel list.
