Turkish Airlines reports loss for second quarter

Turkish Airlines announced it’s financial data for the second quarter of 2020.

In the shadow of the Covid-19 crisis, company’s loss was 2.23 Billion TL for the period of April-May-June, while the company announced a profit of 133 million TL in the same period last year.

Turkish Airlines earned 6.18 Billion TL of revenue in the three-month period, while the revenue of the airline was 18.67 Billion TL in the same period last year.

Looking at the six-month data, company’s loss for the first half of the year was 4.26 Billion TL, while it had a loss of 1.12 Billion TL in the same period last year. Turkish Airlines had a revenue of 21.5 billion TL in the first six months, while last year’s revenue was 33.5 billion TL. Tthe company faced a revenue fall by 36%.

While Turkish Airlines carried a total of 2 million passengers in July, the number of passengers was 7.1 million in July 2019. Thus, the number of passengers decreased by 72.3% on a monthly basis.

Turkish Airlines made a total of 16,425 flights in July, including 11,163 domestic flights and 5,262 international flights. The number of flights, which was 45,791 in the same period last year, decreased by 64.1%.

Looking at the data for seven months, the total number of passengers, which was 42.2 million in the January-July period last year, decreased to 16.6 million (-60.7%) in the same period of 2020.

During the first seven months, Turkish Airlines made a total of 120,829 flights, 57,680 domestic and 63,149 abroad, while this figure was 280,906 last year. The 7-month decrease in the number of trips was 57%.
