Global tourism lost $460 billion due to Covid-19

The latest report of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for June shows that the number of international tourists decreased by 93% compared to the same month last year.

According to the the recent analysis called ” World Tourism Barometer” , in the six-month period between January and June 2020, the number of international tourists arrivals decreased by 65%, while the loss in tourism revenue is around 460 billion dollars.


UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili said:


“The latest World Tourism Barometer shows the deep impact this pandemic is having on tourism, a sector upon which millions of people depend for their livelihoods. However, safe and responsible international travel is now possible in many parts of the world, and it is imperative that governments work closely with the private sector to get global tourism moving again. Coordinated action is key.”
