TUI to complete covid-related refunds by September 30

TUI UK has committed to complete the customer refunds for the holidays canceled due to covid-19 by the end of September.

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) had received hundreds of complaints from TUI customers who were required by law to receive their refunds within 14 days

However, the watchdog said TUI was constructively involved in the investigation initiated and the vast majority of customers received their refunds or re-bookings during the investigation.

TUI’s commitment that all outstanding refunds will be paid out by September 30, includes the group’s other brands First Choice, Marella Cruises, Crystal, TUI Scene, TUI Lakes & Mountains and Skytours.

The Competition Authority has written to more than 100 tour operators to remind them of their obligations to comply with consumer protection law and has launched an investigation against some of them.

Andrea Coscelli, CEO of the institution, said:

“The CMA is continuing to investigate package holiday firms in the context of the COVID-19 crisis. If we find that businesses are not complying with consumer protection law, we will not hesitate to take further action.”
