Air Baltic avoids Belarus airspace

Air Baltic, flag carrier of Latvia, announced today that its avoiding Belarus airspace after a Ryanair’s flight was diverted to Minsk yesterday.


Carrier says the decision is valid until the situation becomes clearer or another decision is issued by authorities.
Yesterday Two Air Baltic flights; one to Odessa/Ukraine and the other one to Tbilisi/Georgia alredy used other routes to avoid Belarus Aispace, the airline says.


A Ryanair flight that took off from Athens to Vilnius on Sunday morning was diverted by the Belarusian authorities to land in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, due to “a potential security threat”.


Among the passengers on the plane, journalist Roman Protasevich, former editor of the Nexta group was detained before the plane was allowed to continue its flight Vilnius.
