Only 74 tourists visited Iran in the spring

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak and related travel restrictions, only 74 foreign tourists visited Iran during the period of March 20- June 20.

Iranian Culture and Tourism Minister Ali-Asghar Mounesan said in a TV interview Tuesday that Iranian tourism is almost at a standstill and only 74 foreign tourists travlled to the country during the spring season due to the pandemic.

In the interview, the minister stated that it showed a growth trend in the period before the tourism epidemic, its revenues reached 11.7 billion dollars in 2019, constituting 2.8% of GDP and approaching the world average.

8.7 million foreign tourists visited Iran last year and was named the second fastest growing country in tourism, according to the data compiled by the World Tourism Organization.

Speaking of the losses suffered by the travel and accommodation sector of the country, the minister said that the Iranian tourism industry has suffered 12 trillion rials (approximately $ 2.85 billion) so far.
