Iran’s tourism loss is about 3 billion dollars

Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Ali-Asghar Mounesan said Monday that the travel industry in Iran has lost 12 trillion rials (about $ 2.85 billion) due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Mounesan added that a total of 2,451 projects worth approximately 32 billion dollars are being carried out for the development of the tourism sector in the country.

In June, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) praised the efforts of the Iranian tourism ministry to manage the travel industry during the coronavirus outbreak.

UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashviliand in a letter to Mounesan stated that the measures taken were truly admirable to mitigate the impact of the epidemic on tourism.

Within the framework of the Iran 2025 Tourism Vision Plan, it aims to increase the number of tourists from 4.8 million in 2014 to 20 million in 2025.

Eight million tourists visited the country in the first ten months of the last Iranian year (as of March 21, 2019), according to the latest data.
