The Hungarian government has decided to close the borders to foreigners as of September 1, due to the increasing cases of covid-19 in the country.
From 1 September, foreign citizens will be banned from entering Hungary, with some exceptions.
Government spokesperson Gergely Gulyás stated that military officers, business and diplomatic travels would be an exception. He also mentioned that no final decision has been made regarding the UEFA Super Cup planned to be played in Budapest on September 24th.
Hungarian citizens returning from outside the country will have to isolate themselves for 14 days or until they get a negative result in two tests in 48 hours.
Foreign students studying in Hungary will be able to enter the country only by providing a negative test result.
In Hungary, with a population of about 10 million, 614 people have died so far due to covid-19.
