Global tourism lost $730 billion: UNWTO says

The latest report of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for July and August shows that the number of international tourists decreased by 81% in July and 79% in August compared to the same months of 2019.


According to the the recent analysis called ” World Tourism Barometer” , in the eight-month period between January and August 2020, the number of international tourists arrivals decreased by 70 %, while the loss in tourism revenue is around 730 billion dollars.

“This unprecedented decline is having dramatic social and economic consequences, and puts millions of jobs and businesses at risk,” warned UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili. “This underlines the urgent need to safely restart tourism, in a timely and coordinated manner”.
