Mysterious drone activity caused significant disruptions to air travel in Denmark and neighboring Norway, leading to temporary closures of several airports.
The alarms began on a Monday, when Copenhagen Airport was forced to shut down for four hours after drones were sighted in its airspace. Later that evening, similar activity led to the temporary closure of Aalborg Airport, which also serves as a military base, affecting military operations and causing at least three civilian flights to be diverted.
Drone sightings were also reported at Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup airports in Southern Denmark. While these airports were not closed, the Danish National Police stated that the incidents showed a similar “movement pattern” to the one in Copenhagen. A similar situation also occurred in Norway, where Oslo Airport was closed for three hours due to a drone sighting.
Local police in Aalborg announced that the drones in their area had left after about three hours, but the identity and motivation of the operators remain under investigation.
