Belarus’ national air carrier, Belavia has announced that it has changed the routes and prices of charter flights to Turkey and Egypt, as some countries have closed their airspace.
The statement on the airline’s website says:
”In connection with the bans on flying in the airspace of Ukraine and other neighbouring countries, Belavia is forced to change the routes of performing charter flights bypassing these territories. This has significantly increased flight times, the amount of fuel required and the cost of air navigation services for charter flights.
In view of the above circumstances, the airline was forced to increase the cost of charter flights to the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Turkey from 29 May 2021. The price increase was for reasons beyond the airline’s control and was applied equally to all charter flight customers.”
10 days ago, a Ryanair flight from Athens to Vilnius was diverted by Belarusian authorities to the airport in Belarus’ capital Minsk due to a bomb threat, journalist Roman Protasevich was detained before the plane was allowed to continue its flight.
After the incident, the EU banned Belarusian airlines from entering the airspace and airports of member states.
Turkey hosted more than 100.000 Belarussian tourists in 2020 and around 260.000 in 2019
