Thailand’s Minister of Justice said that a plan is underway to transform 72 prisons into tourist attractions across the country.
Activities such as cooking competitions are also planned in touristic centers. Shops will also be opened where visitors can buy items made by prisoners.
The Minister of Justice also added that five prisons have been selected as the pilot project, but in total, tourist centers will be created in half of the country’s 143 prisons.
The objective of the project is to facilitate the transition of prisoners to normal life by encouraging them to acquire professions and earn income, and to change the dark image of prisons and turn them into a world of opportunity.
