Australian carrier Qantas announced that it will require all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Qantas said that frontline workers including cabin crew, pilots and airport staff to be fully vaccinated by November 15, 2021, and the rest by March 31, 2022.
Announcing the policy, Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said: “Having a fully vaccinated workforce will safeguard our people against the virus but also protect our customers and the communities we fly to.
“One crew member can fly into multiple cities and come into contact with thousands of people in a single day. Making sure they are vaccinated given the potential of this virus to spread is so important and I think it’s the kind of safety leadership people would expect from us.
According to a survey of the airline’s 12,000 employees, 77% had at least one dose and 60% had the full dose. 12% are booked or planning to book, 7% are undecided, and 4% unwilling to be vaccinated for medical or other reasons.
