The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a total fine of $3.1 million against aircraft manufacturer Boeing for security violations that occurred between September 2023 and February 2024.
Details of the Safety Violations
The FAA’s investigation revealed hundreds of quality system violations at Boeing’s 737 factory in Washington and its subcontractor Spirit AeroSystems’ factory in Kansas. The fine is specifically related to investigations initiated after a door panel detached from a flight on January 5, 2024.
The violations include serious situations such as presenting two unairworthy aircraft for certification and an unauthorized Boeing employee pressuring a safety officer to approve an aircraft for delivery. The safety officer had stated that the aircraft did not meet the required standards.
Boeing is expected to respond to the fine notification within 30 days. This penalty is seen as one of the most significant sanctions the company has faced due to its recent security and production issues.
