TUI is expanding its global portfolio by announcing the opening of its first hotel in Japan, a strategic move that marks its entry into the Far East market. The new property, TUI Suneo Otaru, is set to open in 2029 in the port city of Otaru, a location near famous landmarks and easily accessible by train from Sapporo.
This expansion is part of TUI’s broader growth strategy, aiming to meet the increasing demand from its tour operator and cruise guests for travel to Japan. The hotel is initially planned to have 50 rooms, with potential for future expansion.
With this new opening, TUI’s worldwide hotel portfolio will grow to over 400 properties, and the number of hotels in Asia will increase to 25. The company is actively seeking opportunities to add more locations and hotel brands in Japan, reinforcing its commitment to the region. The entry into the Japanese market is considered a significant geographical milestone for TUI, as the new hotel will be its easternmost property.
