Renowned Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani has passed away at the age of 91 at his home in Milan on the 4th of September 2025. A pioneer of modern Italian style, Armani was a significant figure not only in the fashion world but also in the luxury hospitality sector.
One of his most notable projects was the Armani Hotels & Resorts chain, with properties in Dubai and Milan. The Armani Hotel in Dubai, which opened in the Burj Khalifa in 2010, was the first hotel to reflect the designer’s “simple yet magnificent” philosophy. An announcement in June 2025 stated that the Armani Hotels brand, a partnership between Giorgio Armani and EMAAR Properties, had plans to open 10 new hotels and resorts worldwide.
In an interview, Armani stated that he wanted his legacy to be remembered for a specific style and way of life that went beyond just clothing. His death is seen as the loss of a pioneer in the “designer hotel” concept in luxury tourism. It also raises questions about how the intersection of fashion and tourism will be shaped in a new era.
