Turkish Airlines Seals Deal for 75 Boeing Dreamliners

Turkish Airlines (THY), Türkiye’s national flag carrier, has announced its largest-ever widebody purchase from Boeing, confirming an order for up to 75 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The move is a significant step in the airline’s ambitious plan to nearly double its fleet size by the next decade.

The agreement, formally announced on Friday, is part of a much larger deal with Boeing that could see THY acquire up to 225 total aircraft, including both widebody and narrowbody jets.

  • The Dreamliner Deal: The commitment is for up to 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, comprising 50 firm orders (35 of the 787-9 model and 15 of the larger 787-10 model) and an option to purchase an additional 25 jets.
  • Delivery Timeline: Deliveries for the 787 Dreamliners are currently scheduled to take place between 2029 and 2034.
  • Fleet Expansion Vision: The purchase is a cornerstone of Turkish Airlines’ “Vision 2033” strategic plan, which aims to expand its total fleet to 800 aircraft. The new, fuel-efficient 787s will be deployed on high-demand, long-haul routes connecting Istanbul to destinations in the U.S., Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

Chairman Ahmet Bolat, Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, stated: “This landmark agreement represents much more than fleet growth. It is a reflection of our leadership in the industry as well as our dedication to innovation and operational excellence. The addition of these advanced Boeing aircraft to our fleet will not only enhance our operational capabilities but also become a significant element supporting Turkish Airlines’ 2033 Vision.”

In addition to the Dreamliner order, THY also announced its intent to purchase up to 150 more Boeing 737 MAX jets, which would be the airline’s largest single-aisle order once finalized. The combined 787 and 737 MAX orders are expected to nearly double THY’s existing Boeing fleet.

The deal, which was announced shortly after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, also underscores the economic impact, with Boeing noting that the order will support more than 123,000 jobs across the United States.
