EU adds Ukraine to safe travel list

The European Union has updated its list of ‘safe’ countries that travel restrictions should be lifted by the member states.

European Council announced today that Ukraine was added to the green list, while Rwanda and Thailand were removed.

Countries currently on the safe list are: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Montenegro, New Zealand, Qatar, Moldova, North Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Ukraine, United States and China (including Hong Kong and Macao-subject to reciprocity)

The European Union banned all non-essential travel from third countries to the union in March 2020 due to the covid-19 outbreak. EU gradually granted travel permission to a limited number of countries as of June 30, 2020. Since then, the list of the European Union has been updated periodically.

The Council’s decision is advisory and not binding on member states.
